2022-23 Welcome Letter
August 2022
Dear Roosevelt Community,
The Roosevelt Middle School Parent Teacher Student Association (Roosevelt PTSA) would like to welcome students, teachers, parents, and caregivers to RMS for the 2022-2023 school year. We hope that your summer included time to recharge, reset, relax and/or enjoy some time away from busy school and work schedules. The team of volunteers that make up the PTSA Executive Board is excited and hopeful for this school year, as we look forward to connecting with our community and supporting our students and teachers.
Even with many ongoing unknowns, the PTSA will continue to partner with RMS and Beacon staff and work toward our common goals of creating a welcoming environment, building community, collaborating with and supporting teachers and staff, and enriching the academic experience of all RMS students. The PTSA has supported Roosevelt in the past in numerous ways including:
Data consistently show that when parents and caregivers are involved in their student’s educational experience, students are more successful. We recognize that it is not possible for each of us to volunteer or donate financially or attend events. There are numerous ways that parents and caregivers can be involved, and I encourage you to visit our website (rmssf.org) to learn more. The more people we meet, the more feedback we receive, and the more voices we hear, the more holistic, representative and diverse our community will be.
The PTSA holds monthly meetings that are open to our entire community - students, teachers, parents, caregivers, all are welcome. We meet on the second Monday of each month, from 6:30 - 8:00 pm. This year, our goal is to alternate between Zoom meetings and in-person meetings. Our first general meeting is scheduled for September 12. Details will be communicated via our website, Facebook group and through our weekly newsletter.
Membership in the RMS PTSA is encouraged but not mandatory. Becoming a member is easy through our online membership platform at jointotem.com/users/login. This link can also be found on our website. Your annual dues of $10.00 provide you with PTA member benefits, as well as support our local and state PTAs. Non-members and members alike may attend all meetings and events sponsored by the PTSA; and members may also vote on items and actions presented at our general meetings. We do not want cost to be a barrier to membership, and financial aid is available if needed. Please email me at hazendss@gmail.com if you would like the Roosevelt PTSA to pay for your membership.
We look forward to connecting with you and learning from you how the Roosevelt PTSA can support and engage our community this year.
On behalf of the PTSA Executive Board,
Hazen Sewell, PTSA President
(and mom to 2 RMS alumni and an incoming 6th grader)
